HOW PARENTS CAN HELP AT HOME WITH WRITING
If your child would like to write at home here are some suggested motivations - retell a story, diary writing, use your five senses and explain what you saw, heard, felt, tasted, smelt, magazine pictures, topics of interest to your family, photographs.

Labels and lists
Email a friend
Regularly practise correct handwriting formations of lower and upper case letters using the correct pencil grip.
Praise your child when they attempt to write.
Help your child to learn the names of the letters of the alphabet and the sounds they make.
The Speech Sounds of New Zealand English
Encourage your child to tell you about and read their writing.
Share their writing with others.
Provide felts, crayons, chalk, and a computer to write with.
Let your child see you as a writer.
