HOW PARENTS CAN HELP AT HOME WITH WRITING

  • If your child would like to write at home here are some suggested motivations - retell a story, diary writing, use your five senses and explain what you saw, heard, felt, tasted, smelt, magazine pictures, topics of interest to your family, photographs.

Learners can write -

    • Letters to family, friends

    • Notes to family members

    • Signs for their bedroom

    • Alphabet books

    • Labels and lists

    • Email a friend


  • Regularly practise correct handwriting formations of lower and upper case letters using the correct pencil grip.


  • Praise your child when they attempt to write.

  • Help your child to learn the names of the letters of the alphabet and the sounds they make.

  • Encourage your child to tell you about and read their writing.

  • Share their writing with others.

  • Provide felts, crayons, chalk, and a computer to write with.

  • Let your child see you as a writer.
