Students have three passes to use per class per semester. Please make sure to use the restroom during passing time. If it is an emergency, you can use one of your three passes. No passes can be written the first or last 10 minutes of class. If you leave the class to use the restroom, your phone must remain in the classroom.
No passes can be written for students to see their counselors, liaisons, administrators, or media center unless there is a direct request to see the student.
If you need to print something from the media center, be sure to visit before or after school.
The purpose of this policy is to set forth expectations for appropriate use of existing and emerging technology which students may possess, including, but not limited to cell phones, digital picture, video cameras and/or camera phones, personal digital assistants (PDAs), iPods, MP#s and other personal electronic devices capable of transmitted data or images. It is the responsibility of every student to know this policy and adhere to it.
The Crestwood School District policy is provided to balance the considerations of student safety with the need to maintain a learning environment free from distractions.
Students in grade 9-12 may use cell phones before school, during lunch, and after school. Students are expected to put their cell phones and other electronic devices away when they enter classroom before the first bell. Without prior approval, using a camera/video device in school to record other is not permitted. Taking pictures or videos or distributing pictures or videos of staff or students is prohibited and may result in disciplinary consequences ranging from suspension to expulsion.
Cell phones and other electronic devices may be used in the classroom for educational purposes at the discretion of the classroom teacher.
Visible or audible detection of any electronic, communication listening device when prohibited will result in the confiscation of the device. If confiscated, devices must be picked up in the office.
Disciplinary measures are as follows:
1st Offense: Confiscation/student pick-up at the end of the day in the office.
2nd Offense: Confiscation/parent pick up in the office.
3rd Offense: Confiscation and disciplinary action.
The following is a copy of the attendance/audit policy.
No more than a total of twelve (12) excused/unexcused absences will be allowed in any one class per semester. Approved school activities are not counted as part of the twelve (12) total absences.
At the twelfth (12) absence, the student's credit is under review and a meeting will take place with the student, a parent/guardian, and the high school administration. At this meeting an attendance contract will be signed by the student and their parents stating their commitment to attend, allowing only two (2) additional absences before credit is denied, pending appeal.
The student and/or parent/guardian must initiate the appeal process. The appeal must be in writing and must be received by the principal within five (5) school days of when the credit was lost. All appeals will be reviewed by the high school principal.
If "Loss of Credit" is enacted, students are to remain in class as they will have an opportunity to earn credit through the final exam.
Students who score a 78% or better on the final exam do not lose credit for the class. A student who receives reduced credit will receive their full credit and their letter grade if they earn a 78% or higher on the end of term common/comprehensive assessment.
Being on time to school and classes is very important. It is the student's responsibility to arrive at school on time. Regular, punctual attendance is a prerequisite for success in school. Students who exhibit habitual tardiness will be referred to the office for further disciplinary action. Students tardy more than 5 minutes will be considered absent and subject to disciplinary action according to the school code.
A student is tardy if he/she enters the class anytime within the first ten minutes after the bell. Every student who is tardy, must sign in on the tardy sheet.
Three (3) tardies (of less than 5 minutes) will equal one unexcused absence.
A tardy of five (5) minutes or more will be considered one unexcused absence.
Arrival:
Students must be in the classroom when the bell rings. You are expected to get your chromebook out and begin working on the pear deck daily problem. If announcements/pledge of allegiance are being read over the PA, it is expected that you will be courteous to your classmates and listen quietly. Upon entering class, be sure to check the front table for any papers that need to be picked up or dropped off.
Dismissal:
All students are expected to work up until the bell rings. You will always have some assignment to work on and are expected to do so. Utilize your class time to its fullest. Mrs. Ray will dismiss the class; students are to stay in their seats until the bell rings. The class will not be dismissed if students are standing by the door. Students only exit from the front door. The back door is only to be used in case of emergencies.
Fire Drill: Students will exit out of the back classroom door. Students should immediately walk AWAY from the school. Stay there until you get the sign that it is okay to come back.
Tornado Warning: Students will shelter in the back room as far away from glass as possible.
Lockdown Drill: We will listen to the announcement and follow the directions for what is appropriate in the situation. Some examples would be to evacuate, barricade the door, or counter an attacker.
Lockin: Students can continue to work, but need to be quiet and are not allowed out of the classroom for any reason.
No purses or bags are allowed on the desks. This creates a cluttered workspace and students cannot properly learn. Keep all purses and bags on the floor under your desk. Your chromebook, a notebook, papers, and calculator should be the only things on your desk. They take up enough room!
All students will occupy the work areas assigned to them. There will be no seat changes made except those initiated by the teacher. Anyone wandering out of his or her assigned lab area will be dismissed from the lab.
Please do not write on the desks! These desks are property of Crestwood High School and Mrs. Ray is in charge of taking care of them. If you are found writing on your desk, you will be cleaning all the desks and lab tables in the room.
All students are expected to operate in a safe manner at all times in the classroom, and during the laboratory sessions. If any student is not acting in a safe manner, he/she will be immediately removed from the classroom.
Cooperation and caring actions are an essential part of working with other people. Students will treat other class members and the teacher with dignity and respect.
Students are expected to store their books and materials in their lockers, not within the classroom. Mrs. Ray is not responsible for any items that are left in the class.
All jackets, gym bags, art projects, etc. should be stored in your locker and not in the classroom. Do not bring any hats, jackets, coats, or backpacks to class. If you are wearing a coat or jacket or have a backpack in class, you will be asked to take it back to your locker.
The environment of our classroom will be a pleasant one for students to do their work. All students are expected to dispose of their trash and clean up their work areas on a daily basis with out being asked.
Students are expected to follow common rules of classroom courtesy such as: raise hand before speaking, use appropriate language, follow directions the first time, stay in seat when appropriate, etc.
Crestwood High School will continue to implement the Three Tiers of Discipline when working with students. The three tiers create open lines of communication between the teachers, parents, students, and administrators to ensure that we are all being proactive in supporting students when it comes to making decisions.
Tier 1 - Classroom Based Discipline: Students are expected to follow classroom and school rules at all times. When a student makes a bad decision, Mrs. Ray will correct the behavior. If the inappropriate behavior continues, any one of the following may occur: detention, phone call home, sent down to SRC. Mrs. Ray strives to have open communication between herself and her students and hopes situations that would result in discipline do not occur.
Tier 2 - Classroom Based Discipline Wherein Concerns are not being Rectified: When bad decisions continue to happen and the corrections that Mrs. Ray has used from Tier 1 are not working, then the student will be referred to their counselor or to the community liaison/ social responsibility/restorative technician support.
Tier 3 - Immediate Referral to Grade Level Administrator: Some school infractions skip tier 1 or tier 2 interventions, such as, fighting, verbal threats, sexual harassment, bullying, possession of contraband, dress code concerns, racial intolerance, insubordination in the hallway, and controlled substance/vaping.
Lacking appropriate clothing, or wearing clothing that interferes with the health and safety of students, is prohibited as it creates a disruptive influence on the educational environment.
Clothing not conducive to the learning environment:
Muscle shirts, tank tops, spaghetti strap/very thin shoulder strap, tube tops, net tops, halter tops, plunging necklines (front or back), and see-through clothing;
Footwear must be worn at all times;
Head coverings hats/hoodies not allowed in classrooms or hallways during instructional time unless for medical or religious purposes;
Vulgar, obscene or libelous;
Denigrate others on account of race, color, religion, creed, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, or disability;
Promotion or endorsement of illicit drugs, alcohol, or tobacco;
Encourage illegal or violent acts.
Students who violate the student dress code shall be required to modify their appearance by covering or removing the offending item(s). We are prepared to offer students replacement shirts in the event their clothing is deemed inappropriate. Students who refuse to change may be subject to disciplinary consequences.
Physics is a challenging, yet fun course. Keep up on the homework and reading, don’t let it pile up to the last minute. It is easier to ask questions in little increments than all at once. I am always willing to help before or after school, please ask! Talk to me as the year is progressing; it is hard to help a student who comes to me the day before the final.
I give respect and believe in every student who walks through my door. I expect that you will show me respect in return and always believe in yourself. I am looking forward to working with you!
