Purpose: To find the velocity and to make and interpret a graph of the motion of a toy car.
Materials used in video:
Battery Powered Car
Computer Paper
Meter Stick
Wet-Erase Marker
Procedure:
Place 3 m of computer paper on the floor.
One one end of the paper, mark a line. This is your reference point. Label it 0 seconds.
Turn on the car and start it before your reference point so it is going at full speed when it reaches the 0 second mark.
Start counting in one second intervals when the BACK of the car crossed the 0 second mark.
Mark the position of the back of the car at every second until you reach the end of your paper. You should have at least 5 marks after your car crosses the reference line.
Label the marks after the reference line 1 sec, 2 sec, 3 sec, and so on.
Pay close attention to how the distances were measured and recorded. Be sure to look at the spacing in between the marks.
