The overall goal for the personal project consists of two interrelated parts: a Product Goal and a Learning Goal. The Product is what you will create and the Learning Goal is what you want to learn. You can begin the goal-setting process with a product in mind or you can begin with a learning goal from which you will decide what kind of product to pursue. Your chosen learning goal could lead to a variety of different products, just as your product could relate to a variety of learning goals.
If you begin with the Learning Goal: I want to learn about fitness.
Your Product Goal could be:
to create a series of workout videos OR
to train for and run a half-marathon
If you begin with the Product Goal: I want to create a series of workout videos.
Your Learning Goal could be:
to learn how to film and edit videos OR
how to structure an effective workout OR
how to motivate people during a workout
