Dual Credit

What is Dual Credit?

Dual credit programs allow motivated students to earn college credit and high school credit at the same time. Currently, Chimacum Jr/Sr High students can choose from the following dual credit opportunities:

  • College in the High School - available starting in 9th grade. For juniors and seniors, the first 10 credits per school year are grant-funded and no cost to families.

  • Running Start - available only to juniors and seniors, students can take up to 15 credits per quarter through Peninsula or Olympic College at no additional cost.

  • West Sound Technical School - available only to juniors and seniors, students can earn technical school credit for hands-on work completed during half-days at the WST campuses in Bremerton (or Port Townsend for the Maritime Program), no additional cost to families.

College in the High School

Dual Credit Program | Chimacum Jr/Sr High partners with both Everett Community College and Central Washington University to offer high school students the opportunity to earn college credit for taking rigorous courses while in high school. Typically, there will be a College in the High School option for all core subject areas (Art, English, Math, Science, Social Studies) available for students in 10th-12th grade, though this does vary from year to year. This program allows students to earn college credit while earning high school credits, right here on-campus in Chimacum. Check with your school counselor or your teachers for details!

Running Start

Dual Credit Program | Students can also earn college and high school credit simultaneously through Running Start. CJSHS Students in 11th-12th grade can apply for Running Start and attend college courses through either Olympic College or Peninsula College. Applications for the 2021-2022 school year are open now!

1-2-3, Repeat After Me: Do It In Order!!

Step 1: Students complete both the Career Planner and 4 Year Plan modules within their High School and Beyond Plan (HSBP Lessons 1-5) using what they learn about themselves to map out a course of study in high school that gets them where they want to be after they graduate. This helps them make the most of a pivotal developmental stage AND their free education.

Step 2: Students use their completed 4 Year Plan to officially request courses for the 2021-2022 school year in Skyward, open now! Check your Google Classroom for detailed instructions on how to do this, or watch this video.
