math

We have Math Expressions as our curriculum anchor, and we use supplemental resources such as iPads, laptops, and manipulatives to teach the concepts that our students need to excel.

The concepts we cover during the kindergarten year include: counting and cardinality, operations and algebraic thinking, number and operations in base ten, measurement and data, and geometry.

Students will learn number names and counting. They count to tell the number of objects. and they compare numbers.

Students learn that addition means to put together two or more groups of objects to find a total. They learn that subtraction means to take apart or take from. We use manipulatives and fingers to solve problems.

Students will work with numbers 11-19 to gain foundations of place value. We use base ten blocks and counting mats to help us learn these concepts.

Students describe and compare measurable attributes of objects to classify them. They learn how to count, compare, and graph the number of objects in each category.

Students will learn how to identify and describe shapes (2-dimensional and 3-dimensional). Students also analyze, compare, create, and compose shapes.

We spend a lot of time learning about teen numbers!

We learn about 2-D and 3-D shapes.

We build numbers using manipulatives.

We play games like Domino Parking Lot!

We use technology to enhance learning.

We work as a whole group, in small groups, and as individuals to practice the concepts and strategies that we cover in kindergarten.

We use our comparing mats to compare numbers!

We use standard and nonstandard measurement tools to find data.
