I’ve always loved sunflowers
They thrive in the light of the sun,
Latch on to stray rays of light.
I’ve always loved sunflowers
Because they remind me of myself
Latching on to whatever stray rays of light people have
But then I met her
But on some days, she had clouds surrounding her rays of light
And then I realized that I’ve always loved sunflowers
But I loved her more.
I love her so much that I was willing to latch on eternally
While I did my nature hike at my job site, the Houston Arboretum, I noticed the array of sunflowers that began to bloom, especially heading into the summer season. It reminded me of how much my mom loves sunflowers and how we bonded over gardening flowers and our love for sunflowers, especially the color, and how she will always say I'm as bright as a sunflower. My writing process was all over the place because I was writing this as I was passing by many flowers that also had a significant meaning to me and her, but I had to stick with sunflowers because it is something that will resonate with me forever. My only theme I had was sunflowers, but then thinking about the reason why they grow so far out was to reach the sunlight, it reminded me of how I'm also reaching out to people who have a good energy and almost a bright light to them as well. Because it stemmed from my mom having that bright light and I always look for people who have that bright light, although some days were cloudy, I wanted to highlight that I always stuck by the people even on cloudy days.
