Senior Gwen Rhoads turns the halls of MASH into her personal wedding venue, dressing as the corpse bride from Tim Burton's film The Corpse Bride. Rhoads said, “The most difficult part of my costume was probably the painting process, simply because of how time-consuming it was.” Yet, it was all worth it when she earned a shiny blue ribbon as her ‘something blue’ on her wedding day: one of the two top prizes in the costume contest.

Senior Jamie McKalip brings “A Bad Case of Stripes” to life in the costume contest by winning one of the two top prizes. “There's nothing wrong with having a little whimsy, be silly, don't let the losers get to your head,” said McKalip. “Embarrassment is a social construct!” The children’s book her costume was modeled after is about a girl who gets sick and starts to develop rainbow stripes; I guess you could say she really did get her blue stripes in the form of a blue ribbon.

Senior Eli Ramsey does not disappoint with this awesome costume this Halloween. “Swedish Fish [are my mom’s] go to snack that helps maintain her strength during [ultra] races,” which Ramsey describes as hiking or running "distances one would usually drive.” Ramsey’s costume is a tribute to his mom and her favorite energizing snack.

Who is watching the crops?! Sophomore Pacha Hoogewind leaves the cornfields to fend for themselves to participate in the 2025 MASH Halloween costume contest. “I've been a scarecrow for about 4 years now,” Hoogewind stated. “I also wanted to show my appreciation for Red Ribbon Week because our Journalism class put so much effort in helping to organize it.” Drugs will certainly think twice before coming anywhere near the well-guarded high school of devoted, passionate students.

On Halloween costume day, a trio takes the cake in dressing as Strawberry Shortcake characters. The 2000s show had a role in a ton of people's childhoods, and seniors Vanessa Wolbert, Kennedy Dawson, and Josie Stout still remember. They dressed as the three characters that represent their friendship and their caring compassion for one another. "We got together and talked about costumes we liked. I matched myself with Strawberry and it was decided. The characters also matched with our personality and made the costumes more realistic," Stout said.

Juniors Gavin Cheney and Elijah Miller represent Brennan and Dale from the movie Step-Brothers, adding a lighthearted twist to Halloween. Miller said, “We used to talk about how Gavin looks like the guy from step-brothers, so we thought it would be funny.” He then went on to say that he and Gavin “would watch the movie all the time and thought it was funny.” Obviously, this was the perfect cheerful costume for these two boys.
