Bijan Robinson, Atlanta Falcons running back, is rewriting and reading history. On September 23rd, Robinson is making a move to improve literacy in his community. After finding out that over 40% of Atlanta's third graders are reading below grade level, Robinson had some big moves to make.
In the Falcons' home stadium, the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Robinson invited over 7,200 students from all over Atlanta to his new initiative, ‘Bijan Reads.’ “For me, it's just you know, very important for these kids to understand the joy and fun of reading,” he said after being asked why he decided to do this. Additionally, he confessed that he also did not enjoy reading and struggled with it in his youth, yet now realized the importance of reading and wants to encourage it in his beloved community.
Robinson delicately selected a book that promotes all the things he stands for, a book that promotes readers of all ages to celebrate their inner potential and understand that there can be more than just one right answer to a question, landing on “Just Because” by actor Matthew McConaughey. Robinson wants to #biahero for literacy, and you should, too, by supporting him. Please visit Robinson’s website Bijan Reads.
