Field Trips

Grade levels plan four field trips per year that allow students to expand and apply their classroom learning in new ways and engage with their community. See highlights from each grade level below.

Kinder

  • Yuma County Library
  • Emerald Springs Assisted Living Community: students performed songs from their holiday performance for residents at Emerald Springs

First

  • Yuma Pumpkin Patch
  • Ballet Performance
  • Yuma East Wetlands Eco Explorations Program: students used their senses to examine plants and animals of Yuma East Wetlands and explored their natural world by listening for bird calls, searching for animal prints in the mud, smelling plants, and touching cottonwoods

Second

  • Yuma Recycling Center
  • Yuma West Wetlands
  • Greenheart Farms: students discovered the seed to plant cycle and learned how plants are grown in greenhouses

Third

  • Yuma Proving Grounds
  • Yuma Conservation Garden
  • San Diego Zoo: students examined animal adaptations in real animals, and experienced a behind the scenes tour that exposed students to careers in animal sciences

Fourth

  • Kartchner Cavern State Park
  • Yuma Water Festival
  • Yuma West Wetlands
  • Birch Aquarium
  • Kartchner Caverns State Park: students applied knowledge of erosion, weathering, and deposition in relationship to a cavern habitat

Fifth

  • Yuma Community Food Bank
  • San Diego Balboa Park
  • City of Yuma Water Treatment Plant: students learned about the ways that renewable resources are maximized in our community

Sixth

  • Crossroads Mission
  • Food Evolution Movie Screening and Century Heights Community Garden
  • American Takki
  • Yuma Community Food Bank: students learned about food insecurity in Yuma and began developing ways they could help reduce that insecurity

After School Clubs

Teacher and parent led after school clubs allowed students to explore their passions outside of the classroom. Clubs included:
