On November 6, 2025, Cranberry High School welcomed local veterans for the annual Veterans Day Assembly, a cherished tradition honoring those who have served our country.
The day began with veterans being greeted at the entrance and thanked for their service. They visited the Wall of Honor in the commons, created by the art students, before making their way to the gymnasium, where special seating was arranged for them and their families.
Students in grades 7–12 gathered in the bleachers to take part in the assembly. The program opened with the Presentation of the Flags, during which everyone stood to show respect. The band and choir performed the National Anthem, followed by several heartfelt songs honoring the veterans and recognizing the different branches of service represented.
Senior Raquel Knight served as the Master of Ceremonies, opening the program with a message of gratitude and recognition for the veterans’ courage and sacrifice. The National Honor Society led the recognition of each military branch, and Abby McCain presented the annual Cranberry Alumni Award, which was given this year to Sergeant Terry R. Stover of the U.S. Air Force.
The keynote address was delivered by Harry Whittemore, Director of Venango County Veterans Affairs, who spoke about the meaning of service and the importance of honoring those who have worn the uniform.
As part of Cranberry’s ongoing tradition, the English department selected poems written by students in grades 8–11 to be read aloud, offering heartfelt and personal reflections on patriotism and sacrifice. 12th-grade AP students also presented their Patriotic Reflections, sharing thoughtful words about freedom, gratitude, and national pride.
During the assembly, three Cranberry seniors who have already enlisted in the military were recognized for their commitment to serve:
Mariner Perry – U.S. Air Force
Davidson Shull – U.S. Air Force
Raquel Knight – U.S. Army
Toward the end of the program, the Honor Guard retired the colors, signaling the close of the ceremony. The remaining veterans were invited to the commons for a luncheon prepared by the school cafeteria with desserts provided by students in Cranberry’s cooking class. As veterans and their families exited the gym, members of the National Honor Society formed a tunnel to thank each veteran for their service and bravery.
Cranberry High School extends sincere appreciation to all staff and students who helped make this year’s Veterans Day Assembly a meaningful and memorable tribute to those who have served our country.
