The Cranberry and Oil City boys and girls co-op swimming team competed in the District swimming competition on March 9-10, 2018 at the SPIRE Institute in Ohio. Districts, for which swimmers have to qualify in the regular season, was a very eventful and successful time for the team. Four Cranberry swimmers qualified to attend the District competition.

The qualifiers and their events were as follows:

States took place on March 16-17, 2018 at Bucknell University. The competition lasted the weekend and left the competitors feeling accomplished.

Two swimmers qualified to go on: Jayne Wolbert and Tifany Berry, both competing in the 200 Free Relay alongside two Oil City teammates, Gabby Lockhart and Christina Smith.

I spoke with senior Cranberry swimmer, Jayne Wolbert, who expressed her excitement for the competition. “It was an amazing experience to swim with all of my friends. It was also nice to break two records, one of which was set eighteen years ago,” she said. Interestingly, Wolbert is going to attend Alderson Broaddus to further her swimming career.

Congratulations to the 2018 swimmers, and best of luck to all who continue in the sport!
