Does cheerleading count as a sport? Yes ! Cheerleading is a legal sport recognized by the International Olympic Committee. The cheerleaders at Cranberry go through intense conditioning to prepare them for competitions that put them under immense pressure. In the summer, they run up to 2 miles and go through advanced hybrid Zumba as part of their conditioning. The competitions give them stress and lots of pressure, and they end up doing pretty well at them. They have to memorize multiple cheers on their own time and work together as a group to lift, throw, and toss people into the air swiftly and smoothly. That’s not all though, these cheerleaders have a lot of practices and other sports going on. They have practices everyday of the week, weekends, before games, before competitions occasionally and have to do individual work. Above all, they have to come together and work as a team no matter what, they are like a family, and they might argue, but they have to come together in the end.
