1st Place

"My One and Only Love" by Joey (Pork Chop) Culp

"My Beloved" by Hannah Niederriter

Roses are red,

My racecar is blue,

You look pretty sweet,

When I’m sitting in you.

My name is Joseph,

But they call me Pork Chop,

I used to drive a 04 GMC,

Till the tree brought it to a stop.

Then I found true love,

In my Chevy Cobalt,

When I was drifting,

And the roads didn’t have enough salt.

As I was drifting,

I knew it wouldn’t stop,

I went round and round,

In the mall parking lot.

Then all of a sudden,

Many women appeared,

They hopped in my Cobalt,

And started nibbling on my ear.

As we cruised around town,

Gazing at stars,

They all fell in love,

With my new racing car.

As I popped my hood,

The babes gathered round,

They became real excited,

When they heard that rumbling sound.

As I revved her up,

And the turbo screamed,

My life started changing,

With my new Valentine Queens.

Choices are hard,

And it’s difficult to pick,

When you’re a hunk like me,

Surrounded by chicks.

But nothing can beat,

My true love affair,

With my Chevy Cobalt,

In the midnight air.

Just a mere glimpse, a split of a second

Ignites the passion in the abyss of my soul

One might ponder what this perplexing pleasure is

I, for one, cannot clearly clarify the sensation stirring my whole

The torturous turmoil or overwhelming worry

Loses its vivid shade amidst your embrace

The paralyzing despair that obscures my vision

Vanishes thanks to sympathetic smiles on your face

As our fingers entwine like the red threads of fate

Euphoria emerges and conquers all doubt

It's complicated to even attempt to fathom

The possibilities and potential of this affectionate route

The soothing words that cascade from your mouth

Mend my wounds like a flawless remedy

Perpetual trials fall on their knees in your presence

Only you, my beloved, can grant serenity

Your guided hands are the wings to an angel

Without your support, I'm flightless and hollow

Please remain at my side through devastation and wealth

Wherever you may go, I'll surely follow

Unbearable burdens prey upon frail shoulders

Yet alongside your presence, they're as light as a feather

Regardless of what dreadful deeds come to pass

For you, I'll withstand the perilous weather

Yearning to express my immeasurable gratitude

Pencils and paper perform my heart's desire

My tongue numbs at a lack of words

So I'll write to elucidate my adoration's fire

Appreciation for you far exceeds articulation

Each syllable spoken sends my heart racing

Devotion and passion flourish each moment

I can't help but long for your tight embracing

Wholehearted and genuine, I offer my thanks

You've altered my life and forged me anew

One simple yet meaningful phrase sums up my emotions

I'm happy to say that I love you

2nd place

"The Mason" by Joseph Gunn

"He did his Duty" by Mackenzie Karns

A blank slate, a weathered block eroded by the erasing of time

Destined for glory, destined for fame

A hand, hard and rough begins to caress the stone

A hand that has had many stones shown

“This stone is perfect,”, it says, ready for the craft.

A stone to become great, A stone to become his

The hand begins to work, feverish as it goes

Soft, gentle details laid into fresh ground

No one has been, no one around

Only the surface has been scratched, not the inside

As the hand works, it notices the progress

And sees something beautiful start to form

Something truly fitting, something beyond the norm.

The Mason has finished his work, but cannot let go.

For he, like many, knows that this stone is not for show.

This stone is for his heart, and his alone.

As it is something he created, with help from the stone.

He will never leave it idle

He will always have to stifle

For his love knows no bounds. For a simple stone.

He is free, as you and me.

For he simply has:

A stone.

She Loves his hair as blonde as lemons

She loves his smile with it’s own kinda glow

She loves when he waves her a happy goodbye

She loves when he kisses her on the cheek

She misses him when it’s time to leave

She waits he never comes back

Just a flag in a see through plaque

She is honored for what he did

He saved lives

She misses his blonde hair as blonde as lemons

She misses his smile that lights up the room

She misses his breath calming her

She remembers his goodbye

He said he’d be back

But now he’s just a soldier with an American Flag and a see through plaque
