United Way Gives Gracious Donation to CHS’s Cranberry Closet

Written by Amber Holt and Devin Zerbe | 9/6/2019

In the beginning of the school year, CHS’s C.A.R.E. team received a bountiful donation from the local United Way. The supplies were added to the school’s very own Cranberry Closet, a place devoted to helping students in need.

Mrs. Cowles collected the items which consisted of shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste, tooth brushes, and conditioner that will eventually go to students.

Cranberry Closet, located in the school’s student service center, is designed to provide clothing and hygiene items to students. The closet is run by the Cranberry Assessment, Referral, and Evaluation (C.A.R.E.) program. If any students lack such items, they are able to reach out and receive supplies as necessary. Students can also contact a C.A.R.E. member if they see a fellow student in need.

For over 125 years, United Way has been a non-profit organization devoted to bettering communities. Recently, the United Way of Venango County Inc. received a grant to help schools in need.

A member of the group, Jessica Struthers, reached out to Cranberry’s C.A.R.E. team and used the grant to generously donate the new supplies.

Mr. Godnich, C.A.R.E. member and school counselor, commented on the matter, “They generally do things to better the community.”

CHS would love to thank United Way for their gracious support to the school’s Cranberry Closet.
