Student Leadership Conference Encourages School Spirit

On Tuesday, February 9th, Cranberry High School’s student leaders participated in a virtual leadership conference that allowed them to explore new ways to better our learning environment.

Hosted by Mike Smith and Dr. Tara Campbell, the Zoom conference focused on the topics of coping strategies and emotional wellness, time management, team and trust builders, school spirit, and inclusion.

In particular, the conference hosts shared many ideas to the student leaders on how to promote and increase school spirit and establish a kind learning environment. Some of the proposed ideas included playing music in the hallways, displaying birthdays and special announcements on a TV at school, exhibiting student artwork around the school, and creating boards that show student accomplishments such as good attendance, honor roll, and principal’s list.

CHS already practices a handful of positive activities that encourage school spirit. Student artwork is regularly exhibited in the display cases in the highschool commons, a TV continuously shows student candids and events, and the Cranberry staff makes sure that student accomplishments don’t go unrecognized.

While CHS already encourages students to have “berry” spirit, the skills and ideas shared in last week’s student leadership conference have helped to foster ideas on building student participation and enthusiasm within the halls of Cranberry.
