Pheasant Stocking

On two separate days, October 9th and 23rd, Cranberry’s Conservation Club participated in pheasant stocking for the community. This activity welcomed all of the club’s own members to sign up to stock pheasants in order of grades, beginning with the seniors first, then descending down to the younger students, with different time slots throughout the day.

Members who signed up for this excursion rounded up the pheasants that were raised in the school’s own coop, located behind the building, into crates and transported them to various public game lands. There, Conservation Club members released roughly 600 pheasants before returning to the school.

Kids who signed up in each slot were required to go into the pheasant yard to catch the soon-to-be-released pheasants with nets or their hands. Once the pheasants were caught, the students transported eight pheasants into each crate, then loaded those crates onto a truck.

Mr. Anthony and Mr. Louise assisted in transporting the students to their destinations. Multiple crates were taken each time slot to release, and approximately two or three crates worth of pheasants were freed by students at each location. Every release site was local, including places here in Seneca as well as locations in Knox and Emlenton.
