Passion Presentations Bring Seniors Closer Together

Outside of school, students devote a substantial portion of their lives to the hobbies, research, and people they value most, and recently, seniors at Cranberry High School had the opportunity to present their passions in Mrs. Motter’s English class.

These presentations have been an honored tradition and graduation requirement for many years, and students have enjoyed both discussing their own interests as well as delving into the passions of their peers for as long as the presentations have been conducted.

The assignment was to present to the class, in a minimum of five minutes, something that you are passionate about. Students were given a lot of creative freedom, but as an example, the main portion of the presentation could consist of a student presenting a slideshow and talking about their hobbies, bringing in pets or other objects to show off their passion, or even performing a song or dance for their audience. Students then had to find a way to link this passion to the career they would like to pursue after high school, whether it be going into their passion as a major, selecting a job that provides income to participate in their passion, or simply continuing their passion in their free time as an adult.

This assignment serves as an opportunity for students to get to know more about each other in addition to providing the time for students to discuss what truly matters to them in a setting where these passions might not be addressed otherwise.

Micah Wry, a senior and participant in the presentations, stated, “I really enjoyed how you can learn new things about everyone else... I learned a lot about people I didn't really know well.”

Many students would agree that this presentation was a great way to start their year. Sharing passions with classmates has allowed students to feel more connected and accepted by their peers, and future Cranberry seniors can expect this tradition to stick around.
