Hooray for Homecoming!

Cranberry and Oil City’s joint homecoming dance is right around the corner, and of course, many students are greatly anticipating the week’s festivities. From football to fancy dresses, one event or another will be sure to capture students’ attention, and many preparations are already underway.

Senior High Student Council is primarily in charge of planning and executing the dance, and in order to more efficiently and effectively coordinate plans, this group of individuals was split into several committees, each of whom was put in charge of different aspects of the dance. These committees also designated students to act as chairs: Emily Mong, chair of the ticket and publicity committee, Hannah Sisco, chair of the decorating committee, Liz Cruz, chair of the music committee, and Emerson Culver, chair of the cleanup committee.

The theme of homecoming is vintage Hollywood, so students can expect to see various shades of red, black, white, and gold alongside various movie-themed decorations.

According to Mrs. Motter, advisor for Senior High Student Council, the preparations are going smoothly, and she is incredibly proud of the seniors who have taken charge to make this homecoming the best dance possible.

“Kids are excited to be together and back in school. They’re ready to celebrate some level of normalcy,” Motter stated.

The decision to involve Oil City in our dance was made quite some time ago. Previously, Cranberry students attended homecoming hosted by Oil City, and since we co-op with Oil City for so many sports, it only seemed natural to include their students in our dance. Also, many students in prior years were disappointed in Cranberry’s lack of pep rallies or parades, so co-oping allows for Cranberry students to compensate for our lack of homecoming events and participate in more homecoming festivities. This cycle of homecoming cooperation will continue, meaning that the following homecoming will be hosted by Oil City High School.

In addition to the dance, which will be held at Cranberry High School at 7:30 on Saturday, September 25, students will have the opportunity to attend the homecoming parade on West First Street on Thursday, September 23 at 5:15, the pep rally immediately following the parade in front of the Oil City Library, as well as the homecoming football game scheduled for Friday, September 24 at 7:00. Furthermore, both Oil City and Cranberry are holding spirit weeks in honor of the upcoming dance.

As said by Cranberry senior, Alisha Beggs, “The homecoming football games are always a blast, and the dance is always a good time. I’m excited to see how it all turns out!”

Tickets are now on sale for $10 a piece as of Monday, September 20, and the sales will continue to run until Friday, September 24. Money earned from homecoming ticket sales will be utilized for the Volunteer to Waldameer program. When students are inside, masks will be required, but the dance floor will also extend outside so that students can enjoy the night mask-free. Heaters will also be on reserve to accommodate for any colder weather.
