French Sabots

By Ady Carter

All French students at Cranberry High School were recently invited to join a competition called “Les Sabots de Noël.”

It is a contest for drawing or designing a real shoe as it pertains to the tradition in Europe and the festive time of year.

There is an old tradition where children leave their shoes or wooden clogs by the fireplace on the 5th with treats for Saint Nicolas (Père Noël) and his donkey, only to wake in the morning and find sweets and small toys instead.

French I-IV students willing to participate turned in their shoe designs on December 4th and on the 6th was the long awaited choosing of the winner.

The votes were incredibly close with a one point difference between first and second.

Awarded with a $10 Sheetz gift cards, Amber Holt won the contest with a 3D Van Gogh shoe, along with Alaina Olson in the drawing category with a croc.
