Checkmate at Cranberry

Gifted students at Cranberry put a virtual chess tournament in checkmate following several rounds of concentration, victory, and the achievement of high rankings.

On the mornings of Monday, November 9th, and Tuesday, November 10th, in Cranberry Junior Senior High School’s Library, a virtual chess tournament was conducted in place of the traditional competition held at the Riverview Intermediate Unit #6 due to Cranberry’s yellow phase status from COVID-19.

Students from Cranberry’s gifted program were selected as the chess competitors. The teacher in charge of the event was none other than Gayle Mitchell.

On Monday, November 9th, Ethan Merryman came out on top as the winner of the Sr. High I.U. 6. Second place was secured by Trevor Olson in the Virtual Chess Tournament.

As for the following day, second place was won by Mariner Perry for the Jr. High I.U 6 Virtual Chess Tournament, Alongside him, Jordan Zerbe placed 4th, just shy out of the medals.
