Baylee Fry, a senior attending Cranberry High School, has recently competed in the State Championships Gymnastic Competition on April 14th, placing 2nd among numerous participants.

The competition took place in Upper Bucks, Philadelphia and required competitors to complete several tasks including bars, beam, floor, and vault. An abundance of training led up to this moment: as for Baylee, an approximation of 10 years of practice and 12 competitions this year alone.

“I practiced hard, worked my skills, and sweated a lot in preparation,” Baylee explained.

Amidst the competition, Baylee along with the others participating were judged on a variety of topics. These include the tightness of a competitor's body, pointed toes, good timing, appropriate form, proper technique, and straight legs.

Before the announcement of placement, Baylee described herself as a bundle of nerves. The fact that she would never compete in her league like this again made her restless. This uneasy feeling soon, however, transformed into surprise, joy, and pride with her earning of second place overall.

After such a long period of time invested into the sport, Baylee continues on because gymnastics keeps her strong and provides a way to express her personality while out on the floor. Even after graduation, she plans to join Butler’s gymnastic program, continue practicing in her free time, and possibly work towards competing in college with time permitting.
