There are a handful of somewhat unfamiliar faces Cranberry students and staff can expect to see in the halls this year, so it’s time to get to know the new additions to the CHS family!

During trips throughout the hallways, students might be greeted by Ms. Wyant, the newest member of the 7th grade level teaching staff! Ms. Wyant currently teaches 7th grade art classes, though she may be recognizable from prior years. Ms. Wyant substituted here at Cranberry for a total of eight years, which allowed her to gain experience teaching a variety of grade levels. However, Ms. Wyant has never specifically instructed 7th grade, and she’s ready for the challenge that teaching 7th grade holds. She hopes to make her class fun and engaging for students all the while teaching them various modes of art, such as drawing, painting, clay, two-dimensional art, and so on. Ms. Wyant divides her time teaching between Cranberry, Venango Catholic, and St. Stevens, so she has quite the busy schedule! Here at Cranberry, she’ll mostly be available before study period, and outside of school, Ms. Wyant could probably be found spending time with her kids and dogs or in her pottery studio in Oil City. When asked about her goals for this school year, Ms. Wyant responded optimistically that she wishes “to build a rapport with the students and their families” and overall have a great year.

Another new addition to the Cranberry Area School District is Mrs. Villar! Mrs. Villar serves as the emotional support teacher here at CHS where she covers all subjects with all grade levels. Mrs. Villar has been working under this position at Cranberry for four years, but she wasn’t actually employed under the school district until this year. Previously, Mrs. Villar was working through Indiana University, and she had originally transferred from the IU to CHS prior to being hired by the school district. A lot of Mrs. Villar’s time outside of the classroom is spent with her four sons; whether it be for her sons’ after-school jobs or extracurricular activities, Mrs. Villar leads a busy life. Mrs. Villar also strives to keep an interesting, busy schedule when it comes to her work life, which is partially why Mrs. Villar enjoys being CHS’s emotional support teacher so much. As far as her goals for this year go, Mrs. Villar hopes to have a successful year like always, all while having a good time with her students.

In addition to Cranberry’s two new teachers this year, CHS is also very fortunate to have two wonderful full-time substitute teachers added to the staff this year!

Ms. Daugherty (Photo taken by Amber Holt)

Ms. Daugherty is the full-time substitute this year for Mrs. Dixon. Ms. Daugherty’s position requires her to work with and teach students in a variety of grade levels ranging all the way from 8th to 12th grade. She serves as the 8th grade academic English teacher from which students will primarily learn about the aspects of grammar and writing. Ms. Daugherty also teaches multiple 11th grade English classes where students can expect to dedicate time working with literature, writing, and career exploration. Additionally, Ms. Daugherty is in charge of this year’s journalism class, a 9-12th grade elective that covers schoolwide and local news where students produce different forms of media. Before Ms. Daugherty tackled this position, she attended Grove City college where she was able to student teach and substitute right here at CHS. During her free time outside of school, Ms. Daugherty might be found outside biking or hiking, playing with her cat Peggy, or planning for her upcoming wedding. One interesting fact that Ms. Daugherty would like people to know is that she grew up on a Christmas tree farm, so she has an immense love for the holiday season. As for this school year at Cranberry, Ms. Daugherty aspires to help her students grow as much as possible as well as to grow and learn right along with them.

Ms. Winger is the full time substitute this year for Mrs. Sandrock, and she currently teaches multiple 7th grade English classes as well as one 8th grade English class. Her students will complete tasks pertaining to idioms, journaling, text-dependent analysis, various types of writing, word cells, vocabulary, parts of speech, grammar, and oral communication. Ms. Winger has had a long history in the Cranberry Area School District, so she already feels right at home in the high school. As a child, Ms. Winger attended Pinegrove Elementary School and then graduated from Cranberry High School. After graduation, Ms. Winger went to college at Slippery Rock University before returning to Cranberry to substitute for about four years. One of Ms. Winger’s favorite aspects of CHS is that it’s nostalgic, comforting, as well as generally welcoming to her. Apart from school, Ms. Winger enjoys reading and doing anything active, such as running, lifting, and snowboarding. For the current school year, Ms. Winger strives to make learning as fun as possible for her students.
