Students in grades 6 through 8 who are identified as TAG students will have the opportunity to receive services year round from the TAG program. The students who qualify for enrichment services through the TAG program will be in the classroom for a quarter in each the areas which they qualify; reading (2nd quarter) and science/math (3rd quarter). Letters will be send home a few weeks prior to the quarter to notify students who qualify for enrichment services.
6th Grade:
Students are identified for TAG services at the end of 3rd grade and remain in TAG through 6th grade. At the end of 6th grade the next screening and selection process will take place. That process is described below.
New students to the district prior to the screening and selection process will have their data entered into the rubric and 77% of the possible points that the school has data for must be earned to be in TAG. Other measures can be used to have enrichment classes.
Screening and selection process:
The cognitive test will be given in 6th grade. The district assessment will be given at the end of the year. The Renzulli Scale will be filled out at the end of the year for the students in the top 10% of the class as determined by the teachers and the data. Data will be entered into the rubric in May. Students scoring a 20 or above on the rubric will be in TAG. Any student who is exiting TAG will have an exit letter sent to their parents. Students will remain in TAG until the next screening and selection process which will be completed at the end of 8th grade.
The TAG Coordinator and teachers will look at the data and determine who should be added to TAG classes as enrichment for the following school year (7th grade). A child may receive enrichment services from the TAG teacher if they score high (97th percentile or above) in reading, math (6th grade)/science (7th and 8th grade), or both. Students who qualify for enrichment will be more fluid, meaning they may be in for a year and then out the following year (based on data).
