Students in grades 3 through 5 have the opportunity to receive services from the TAG program in the areas of reading and math. The TAG teacher leads a small reading group in which similar instruction is given as other small reading groups for that grade level; the level of the books and questions are aligned to the level of the students. This is for students who qualify for TAG or reading enrichment services and will be in the TAG classroom. Students who qualify for TAG or math enrichment services will be in the TAG classroom for 30 minutes one to two times a week working on logical and challenging mathematical concepts.
3rd Grade:
Students in the TAG program for 3rd grade are identified in 2nd grade using a similar process below. Please see 2nd grade details if you would like to see how students qualify for services during the 3rd grade school year.
The following is what will be done during the 3rd grade school year to determine services for students for the following school year:
A cognitive test will be given in 3rd grade. The district assessment will be given in the fall of the year. The Renzulli Scale will be filled out at the end of the year for the students in the top 10% of the class as determined by the teachers and the data. Data will be entered into the rubric in May. Students scoring a 20 or above on the rubric will be in TAG. Students will remind in TAG until the next screening and selection process which will be completed at the end of 6th grade. Any student exiting TAG at that time will have an exit letter sent to their parents.
The TAG Coordinator and teachers will look at the data and determine who should be added to TAG classes as enrichment. A child may receive enrichment services from the TAG teacher if they score high in reading, math or both areas. Children who qualify for enrichment will be more fluid, meaning they may be in for a few weeks or for much of the school year. There may be changes made throughout the year to the enrichment roster of the TAG teacher.
4th Grade:
Students are identified for TAG services at the end of 3rd grade and remain in TAG through 6th grade. At the end of 6th grade the next screening and selection process will take place.
New students to the district will have their data entered in to the rubric and 77% or above of the possible points that the school has data for must be earned to be in TAG. Other measures can be used to be part of enrichment classes.
In May of the school year, the TAG Coordinator and teachers will look at the data and determine who should be added to TAG classes as enrichment for the following school year (5th grade).
5th Grade:
Students are identified for TAG services at the end of 3rd grade and remain in TAG through 6th grade. At the end of 6th grade the next screening and selection process will take place.
New students to the district will have their data entered in to the rubric and 77% or above of the possible points that the school has data for must be earned to be in TAG. Other measures can be used to be part of enrichment classes.
In May of the school year, the TAG Coordinator and teachers will look at the data (97th percentile or above) and determine who should be added to TAG classes as enrichment for the following school year (6th grade).
