Tobin students were working together in partners and in small groups.
Their goal was to be the BEST TEAMMATE possible while working through a challenge.
Student suggested tips were to COMMUNICATE, LISTEN, CREATE A PLAN, be PATIENT, SUPPORT others, and be POSITIVE.
This was showcased in an amazing way through.. TEAM BELT, TEAM SKI, and CUP STACKING.

Personal Update!
💒 💐
Sharing something personal: I got married! My (now) wife and I have dated for 5 years, and she has heard ALL about my passion for teaching. We are so excited for
our happy future together as
Best Friends.
Jumping Stations!
Students choose stations to practice jumping skills. The favorite station was Helicopter! What was once a scary situation to see the Jump Rope whipped around has now been taught & learned in a safe, fun routine that practices, jumping, communication, leadership, and group work.
Toss, Run, n' Catch
Students work together to toss, run, and catch their teammates scarves. If in a group of three, they rotate clockwise to catch each others! Hand-Eye Coordination, catching, timing, and directional skills are all being practiced.
Healthy
Food / Activity
Matching Game
Students work together Running Relay Style in small groups to retrieve cards and match them! Each card has a healthy activity or food.
Driving Around Town
Students in Lower El & Children's House use their new Locomotor Licenses to drive to different locations around town. Everywhere from the grocery store, to the yoga studio, to the pool, and the car mechanic shop!
They also practice Yielding to pedestrians in the cross walk. And, as always, they are responsible for the use of materials, and their clean up. Finally, also shown at the end of this video is some exceptional Jump Rope!
Upper Elementary Track Stars!!
Students in Upper El practice Running, Throwing, & Jumping (with emphasis on Hurdles, Distance, ShotPut, Javelin, Long Jump, and High Jump!) Students were supportive with each other and encouraged all to try their best!!
Students are hard at work learning the scientific names for the bones and muscles of the human body.
Students were divided into small groups, used their relay race team skills, and built a body system puzzle!
Children's House in the HOUSE!!
Students in Children's House & Lower El practice Driving (with emphasis on Street Safety & Spatial Awareness) They also practice early steps to Jump Rope (jumping over a rope low-to-the-ground), and finally Balance on play stilts, and Volleying with Beach Balls.
Locomotor, Pathways & Levels!
Students in Children's House & Lower El practice Locomotor Movements (skip, side-slide, gallop, & bear crawl, frog jump, etc.) as well as Pathways (curved, zig zag), and finally Levels (low, medium, & high!)
The different ways of moving strengthen coordination, balance, & healthy exercise & development.
Day in the PE Life!
What do students do in Physical Education class? What is the typical schedule & routine? Ask no more- check out this video! Thanks to 3 great student volunteers!
More Team Challenges! 🤩
Students Communicated, Worked Together, and created a Plan to cross the Lava Field on floor spots, or on a "Team Belt!" Students also practiced volleying a beach ball together in a game called "SpaceBall!" A ton of new experiences, social bonding, and fun for all!!
FIRST DAY: Agree OR Disagree 🍟🍦
Students had fun agreeing or disagreeing with classmates; with the final message being that - Although we may agree or disagree, we all have to Respectfully Work Together.
Communication is key! 🔑
CURRICULUM
🗺️ MAPS 📅
This past year, Massachusetts released a revised curriculum for Health & Physical Education.
I organized it down into PE units to tentatively plan out the upcoming school year!
For CH, LE, and UE, review the slides for a Month-to-Month unit plan, as well as Learning Objectives for each unit.
Also, DEAR WORLD, here is a Passion Pitch I wrote for Physical Education. It's not only a job I'm passionate about, but it's also the health supporting, social skill building, stress release that our student's need!! Please check it out and support your local Physical Education department :)
3 v 3 Pickleball
2 v 2 Balloon Volleyball 🏐
SMALL GROUP GAMES 🏐 Throughout a Manipulative Unit (dribbling, throwing, catching, striking, volleying) Students mainly engage in activities and games with less than 10 people. Instead of pressure from a large group game, students are usually more comfortable practicing the skills, gaining feedback from their peers, and able to actively try more times practicing the skill.
Throughout our Manipulative Unit (dribbling, throwing, catching, volleying) there are opportunities for many fun games and competitions. Although, all students are required to practice each skill, when it comes time for competition, if they feel more comfortable taking one of the roles below- they are just as invested in our Curriculum! It is a great way to ensure that all students are engaged.
Throughout these 4 weeks leading up to winter break, Children's House students are going to focus on Locomotor Movements. These are different ways to move (i.e. skip, gallop, jump). Their goal is to earn a Locomotor License at the end of this unit. Be on the lookout for it in their home-folders just before winter break.
Students are learning safe movement through
"pretend driving"
Check out this picture collage from Ms. Sandra!
You can see the 325 items of food that were donated, the physical activity feathers that students made, and the running & teamwork that took place!
You may also see a chicken & a skating turkey!
Check out this video on how..
Students colored & cut out peace doves for World Peace Day on September 21st!
Thank you classroom teachers for your help with this!
Check out the video to learn more!
Students work in pairs to read a map, then follow it in real life.
Cones are placed throughout the gym or the park with a landmark close-by. Students have to orient the map (rotate it so that it matched real life) and go to each cone in order.
Students use a chip reader, and tap it on the cones as they go. At the end of their course, they electronically check their progress!
Students are helping each other out in our cycling unit! Some students are already avid cyclists, so they pass their knowledge off to those just beginning to learn.
Those who are just beginning to learn made huge progress in their riding skills. They gained confidence, increased balance & fitness skills, and formed some great core memories.
Tobin UE students were divided into 3 teams and given a team goal of getting to the other side of the gym with just two wooden planks and hand held ropes. They had to balance on the planks, and move them forward with the ropes! This is no easy task!
But with dedication, communication, resilience, and a team plan- they were able to be successful and have fun!!
From my Perspective: Communication about a team goal at an ALL TIME HIGH. Just working hard together to accomplish a team goal is awesome.

THIS SURVEY,
Communication is KEY!
This survey communicates the PE
class expectations here at Tobin..
But also gives students a space to communicate to me what they are excited or nervous about, and their learning style preference.
Some may say that the PE teacher
only works and lives in the gym!
This is not true!
I love to be visible around the school and visit classrooms to be able to reinforce expectations, and show students that teachers & staff also work together through teamwork.
Tobin Children's House and Lower Elementary students enjoyed Fun Day just as they did last year with 5 different stations around the school campus.
An obstacle course, library experience, art project, parachute game, jungle gym, and DUNK TANK made for an awesome day.
Upper Elementary students showed incredible responsibility and role modeling while they "buddied" up with Children's House students last year, and this year. So we decided to throw them their own Field Day at Joan Lorentz Park in front of the CRLS Library!
Classic Field Day activities such as Capture the Flag, Dizzy Bat, Potato Sack Race, Slingshot, Hoop Pass, and even a new one - Donut Throw - were a great way to get outside for some Team Building and fun during the last week of school.

Students ran or walked around Joan Lorentz park for 15 minutes.
Donations -
.. were given to the Cambridge Community Center on Callendar St. Hundred's of food items were donated!
Feathers -
.. were decorated to show the amount of participation we had!
Teaching healthy, social physical activity and giving back to the community is one of the best things we can teach out younger generation.
Here’s a look inside the PE classroom this year! Students have been busy w/ team building lessons to strengthen our community (space ball, lava field crossing).
Peep the peace doves lining the gym- EVERY student made one 🕊
Also - look for the Zones of Regulation to help students communicate how they’re feeling ☺️
