Good morning 307 friends!

Have you been keeping up with your nonfiction reading? I've been reading about many topics like the moon, penguins, and insects. My favorite has been learning about the robin, the bird living in a nest outside my window. So far I've learned that robins are a type of songbird, they like to eat insects and berries, and the chicks leave the nest after two weeks. What topic have you been reading about lately?

If you're meeting with me today, please be ready to share what you have written so far on your expert books. You should also make sure you have a pencil and paper and a whiteboard and marker (if you have one). I can't wait to hear what you have written so far!

Just recently I've been hearing a bird chirping and tweeting beautiful songs outside my window. I decided to watch it today and I discovered that it built a nest in one of the bush! I'm so curious about this bird now, so I'm going to read about it on Big Universe today. I want to find out what type of bird it is, what it eats, and when she will lay her eggs. Good morning second graders!

Let's talk about non fiction writing for a second. When you are taking notes on the animal you are writing your report on, it is VERY IMPORTANT not to write what is already written in the book you're reading. You need to put it into your own words. For example, if the book says, " Giraffes are the largest animals on land. They spend their days on the savanna looking for food and water." I would put that sentence into my own words by saying, "Since giraffes are the biggest land animals, they need lots of food and water. They will spend most of the day roaming the savanna in search of something to eat and drink." As you write your reports today, double check to make sure everything is written in YOUR WORDS.

Have a Wonderful Wednesday,

Love, hugs, and smiles,

Ms. Tucker

Good morning second graders!

Happy Friday!

Some days are harder than others. Yesterday was one of those days for me. When I have a tough day, I like to think of three things I'm grateful for in life. It helps! Kid President does she same thing when he's having a bad day. Watch him explain what he's grateful for. What would you add to the list?

Next week is vacation! That means you get to have the week off from doing work. PLEASE try to unplug from your computers and tablets and enjoy life away from technology. We have all been spending so much time online lately. Go for a walk! Read a book! Play with siblings or adults in your house! You have no school work to do until Monday 4.27.20! Enjoy!

We are going to try another number talk tonight during our class meeting at 6PM. Please solve TODAYS NUMBER TALK ON A PIECE OF PAPER, take a picture of it, and upload it to out "Share your thinking" folder instead of making a video. You can also bring one of your poems in case we have some extra time to share.

I hope to see you all tonight at 6PM!

Love, hugs and smiles,

PS: You'll be getting some materials from our classroom today or tomorrow. Make sure you're responsible and take extra good care of them like you do in school. :)

Taking care of your mind and body are also very important. I've added a section to our website called "Self Care". Here you'll find links to Choose Love and Mindfulness and Yoga. I've included some our favorites like, "Swirling" and "Rainbow Breath". Check it out!

Good morning second graders!

Today you are going to play one of my very favorite math games. It's called "Collect 50 Cents"! You'll find the link in the weekly assignments folder I shared with you yesterday. I also made a video explaining how to play this game along with a lot of other really cool math songs about coins (look in the math section)! I hope you enjoy the game as much as I do!

If you haven't checked out the "Guest Read Alouds" tab yet, you should! You'll find some of your really awesome teachers reading books for you to listen to!

Love and hugs!

Ms. Tucker

PS: Updated Virtual Field Trips!

Good Morning Second Graders!

Did you know that human schools are not the only schools closed? Maggie goes to special dog school and it's closed too. Just like me, her teacher gives us work to do during the day so Maggie can keep up with her skills. Today, Maggie was working on coming when I call her name. She's learning that even when she's distracted by other really cool things around her, she still needs to come to me when I call her name. It's a work in progress, but we keep practicing because the more we practice, the better she will get. Just like you with your learning! Continuing to practice your school work at home will help you be more prepared when we get back to school!

Keep up the good work!

Love and hugs,

Ms. Tucker

Happy Spring! Did you know yesterday was the first day of Spring? It seems funny because it was snowing and cold, but it's officially SPRING now!

Today we are going on a "field trip" to the New England Aquarium. I've added a new tab to our website called "Virtual Field Trips". This is where I'll post some cool places you can "visit"!

I hope you all have an awesome day! Work hard and persevere!

Love and hugs!

Good Morning Second Graders!

It's day 4 of 307 ONLINE! How's it going? I love seeing you posting your Number Talks everyday and I hope even MORE of you will start to participate! These are great ways I can hear from YOU each day!

I am trying to reach out to YOU each day by writing this Morning Letter, and by reading you James and the Giant Peach. I want you to be able to see my face and hear my voice every day while we are apart!

I added a BUNCH of new links to the “Additional Online Resources” page for you to explore. I also updated the “Choose Love” page and added a new folder called “307 Guest Readers”. The read aloud folder is for you or a family member to record yourselves reading a book for your classmates (and me) to listen to! Check it out!

Love and Hugs!

Ms. Tucker

ps: I'm having trouble loading videos, so click the button at the top from now on.

You'll also have to click on the "chapter ___" buttons for the read aloud :)
