Math Placement SY 25-26

Dear CPS Students & Families,

CPS Students: We have been working to try and provide more clarity for the course request process to ensure more transparency around the opportunities rising 9th graders will have. Students will see the below options, AND for students looking to Place out of Algebra 1 or to Take 2 Math Courses (1 per semester)” fill out a google form. Students will see the below screen (with the addition of Algebra 2 Honors as a single course). 

For special the special requests, please make sure to put one of the following notes:

• Placing out of Algebra 1: “I am completing Algebra 1 via _______ and have filled out the google form to document my completion of Algebra 1” or “I will be finishing work over the Summer and will submit documentation via the google form.”

• Taking 2 Math Courses: “If I am unable to take a 2nd math class, I would like to take the following elective __________”

Non-CPS Students: If your Student is coming from another district or school system, then you will identify which course you would like your student to take via the following google form. Please make sure to still submit any documentation to support placing OUT of Algebra on this form above.

We are very hopeful we will be able to allow any student who wishes to Take 2 math courses, but please make sure students know we cannot guarantee this. Please know that students will be placed into Algebra 2 Honors, but if they don’t submit documentation before August 15th, then we will have to change their course back to Algebra 1 Honors.
