Theory of Knowledge is at the heart of the IB DP program. Every core subject in the IB program has a distinct connection to TOK. The main question we pursue is "How do we know what we know"? To that end, the first year of ToK focuses on three core themes: Knowledge and the Knower, Knowledge and Language, and Knowledge and Politics, and in each students explore how knowledge is created and shared. This is assessed through the ToK Exhibition. Students will also use TOK I to begin selecting topics and conducting research for their Extended Essay, another external IB assessment. A DP student cannot earn the IB diploma without passing the TOK assessment or the Extended Essay.
Grades 11th
Pre-reqs: Admittance into the IBDP program
Hours/Min per day: 3 hours/week
Theory of Knowledge II is at the heart of the IB DP program. Every core subject in the IB program has a distinct connection to TOK. In the second year of theory of knowledge, students will explore different areas of knowledge which include: human sciences, natural sciences, the arts, and mathematics. There is one distinct external assessment for TOK II: the prescribed title essay, which asks students to write about two subject areas in relation to the TOK framework: scope; perspective; methods and tools; and, ethics. Students will also use TOK II to guide their focus, research, and writing of their Extended Essay, which is another external IB assessment. A DP student cannot earn the IB diploma without passing the TOK assessment or the Extended Essay.

This is the first-year on a two-year journey of "Art-making as Inquiry" Students begin junior year with guided inquiry into media, artists, and creative strategies with the goal of becoming independent studio artists. Students will create two portfolios, one showing evidence of the inquiry and studio practice, and one comprised of a cohesive body of artwork. Senior year will require a largely independent "Artist Project" in which each student develops a larger artwork designed for a specific audience and location, this is sort of capstone project and will be sent to IB for scoring along with the Art-making Investigation Portfolio. Students must be independent and willing to explore, fail, reflect, revise, and investigate in the search for growth and resolve.

In the first year of this two-year cycle, the focus in the classroom is on direct instruction of theory and musicology. Students build a foundation of knowledge, skills, and a portfolio of work with which to complete the significant requirements of the IB assessments in their senior year.
This course pushes students to explore musical traditions from a wide range of historical and socio-cultural contexts through composition, performance, and analysis. Students learn, research, create, perform, and reflect upon music through the International Baccalaureate Music curriculum. While working twice weekly on music academics (composition, theory, musicology), all musicians will also participate in advanced ensembles in band, orchestra, or chorus through rehearsals three times a week and 2-4 concerts throughout the year.

Involving aspects of composition, performance, and critical analysis of music, the course allows students the opportunity to explore musical traditions from a wide range of historical and socio-cultural contexts. Students learn, research, create, perform, and reflect upon music, following the IB Music curriculum. Class time is divided between a classroom environment for composition and research and one of our three performing ensembles for rehearsal. There is significant work expected outside of class practicing and working on IB assessments.
In the second year of this two-year cycle, students turn from learning to demonstrating the creativity and skills they have acquired. Students present formal research in the Exploring assessment, demonstrate their creativity in Experimenting, engage with contemporary music production in the CMM, and finally package their best work in composition and performance in the Presenting portfolio.
