Global education is a capacity building pedagogy that incorporates an expanded worldview and mission into the curriculum of a classroom. There are many layers to building global competence and these must be intentionally developed by teachers. "21st Century Skills" boasted standards-based instruction, life skills, technology, and core subjects, however, it did not clearly state the ways in which those skills would create a stronger world. Global education seeks to fill the gaps by creating curious, active citizens who have a capacity for critical thinking and empathy.
Global competence unlocks a tool kit for curious and engaged citizenry
The new millennium poses new challenges to our world and requires new skill sets in our students beyond the classics
Our world is interconnected and one person can make a difference
Global competence incorporates the highest levels of thinking (Bloom's Taxonomy) including application, evaluation, and synthesis
Our future relies on global activity
As noted in the infographic to the left, global competence is comprised of four domains, off of which are critically important for developing students who will see themselves as valuable members of an interconnected world.
