I can’t begin to tell you how many students in Chicago only know a small 4 block radius. There is a whole world outside of Chicago and it’s my job as an educator to share that world.
Globalized education is one way to expand that scope and it is not the next buzzword in education, it is the direction.
Global educator can start from using our strengths in Chicago to start locally and act globally. Partnerships between educators and communities are critical. Connecting on topics both big and small all impact our students, their families, and their lives.
Common core standards alone do not require students to expand their world view beyond the city, it does not empower their voice, and it does not affirm their identities. Global education does.
We say it takes a village to raise a child, now why are we treating our education system this way?
