Accountability for our students is an important theme at LaSalle 2. Holding students accountable for their actions, grades and behaviors will lead to a student body of responsible citizens that are fully prepared for high school and beyond. For these reasons, we have many systems in place to ensure student accountability:
- Data Binders--Each week, students receive graded work and add it to binders (or portfolios). They then graph the results of the work, giving themselves a clear picture of how they have improved or how they have fallen short of their goals. Students will share these binders and the data in them with parents during end of quarter conferences.
- Grade Reflections--On most Fridays, students will explore the portal to examine the details of their grades. They will complete a table showing their percentages in each category of Reading, Math, Social Studies and Science. They answer a reflective question that helps them dig a little deeper into their goals and motivation
- Agenda Books--Students will be explicitly instructed in the use of agenda books for the first quarter of the school year. Students will be required to carry agendas to each class, are responsible for noting assignments and important dates and reviewing it at home in the evening.
- Student Led Conferences--With all the above information in hand, all students will lead their own report card conference!
- Calm Corner--A safe place to calm down helps students recognize and be accountable for managing emotions. For this reason, we practice mindful focus, yoga, and meditation for a few minutes each day. In addition to this, though, our class is in the process of creating a calm corner--a sensory spot where students can get control of their emotions (and thus, behavior) as needs arise. The corner will have privacy, calming music, yoga cards, visual focus manipulatives, and even guided meditations.
