The Cadet Unit Commander commands the cadet Unit. This is accomplished through the use of the unit staff. The Cadet Unit Commander identifies problems and sets goals. Through the issuance of necessary directives and orders these goals can be met. Additionally the Cadet unit Commander is responsible for:
Established plans, policies and procedures necessary to the fulfillment of the MCJROTC mission, which are not in conflict with orders from the MI or SMI and directives from higher headquarters.
Keep informed of the accomplishments, problems, and degree of compliance with regulations and other directives through personal observations, inspections, report, and staff meetings.
Comply with all policies, regulations, and directives issued by the MI and SMI and higher headquarters, and require the same compliance by all members of the unit.
Ensure the safety of personnel and equipment through compliance with directives and policy guidance; ensure an effective safety awareness, education, and inspection program within the unit.
Recommend to the MI and SMI personnel to fill authorized cadet staff positions and recommend removal those personnel deemed unqualified or otherwise unsuitable to continue in their program.
Establish and support policies and procedures to ensure an effective unit recruiting and retention program.
Coordinate the activities or staff to prevent overlapping of functions and to resolve conflicts.
Recommend to the MI or SMI those cadets whose continued participation in the MCJROTC program is determined undesirable in accordance with the provision of an MCJROTC Standard Operation Procedures.
Determine, through coordination with the MI and SMI, meeting dates and attendance requirements for members of the cadet staff.
Ensure that new cadets are properly introduced to the MCJROTC and make frequent checks of their progress.
Ensure that unit property and funds are properly safeguarded and accounted for. Initiate recommendations for promotions and unit members.
Ensure proper wear of the MCJROTC uniform and that violations are promptly corrected.
Ensure that complaints and grievances are resolved fairly, impartially, and promptly.
Initiate recommendations for awards and decorations for unit members.
Refer to the MI and SMI, problems which cannot resolved.
