Sixth Grade Math will focus on developing strong conceptual knowledge of Mathematics. Elementary Math (Pre-K - Grade 5) focuses on the Number System and does a great job of embedding algorithms (step-by-step procedures) into practice. With a solid background in algorithms, Middle School Math can focus on having a deep understanding of the conceptual side of Mathematics.
We will begin the school year with exploring Integers, the Number Line, Fractions, Decimals and Probability. From there, we will work with Algebraic Expressions and Equations. This will be the first time most Sixth Graders will be exposed to Algebraic concepts!!! We will then turn our attention to Ratios and Rates. Towards the end of the year, we will be exploring Area of Quadrilaterals and Circles as well as an in-depth Statistical unit.
