Each full-time teaching faculty member has responsibilities to serve students, the department, and the College by providing instruction, assisting students, and engaging in professional growth/service and college/community service and all other duties as described in the job description.
There is an expectation for each full-time instructor to hold a set number of office hours per week, and serve the college by way of committees or development work.
All new employees are required to attend Onboarding New Employees (ONE) where they will learn about the College's mission, vision, values, and history as well as the ways in which Talent and Organizational Engagement supports employees in their career at Central Piedmont. All NEW employees should complete the orientation within the first 4 months of employment.
The Part-Time Employee Orientation (PTEO) provides newly hired part-time employees a broad overview of Central Piedmont, as well as resources and services for getting started at the college. The CTLE New Faculty Experience (NFE) program is a 30-hour, one-year commitment for all first-time, full-time faculty at Central Piedmont in their first year of teaching. The vision of the program is to engage faculty with teaching and learning excellence to include pedagogy, classroom management, learning assessment, academic technology, teaching strategies, and faculty administration. NFE was built to be the solid foundation of teaching excellence that new faculty deserve, striving for quality and relevant experience to meet their needs in the first year. Career development is an ongoing process that starts when you first begin working at Central Piedmont and continues throughout your employment. The Individual Development Plan (IDP) enables faculty to take ownership of their career and identify what they need to obtain maximum satisfaction from their work. Full-time faculty should use the Faculty IDP Form when preparing for the initial IDP meeting with their Associate Dean. Review the Faculty IDP process summary for additional information, including the alignment to the Teaching Excellence Framework and Peer to Peer Observation program.

Faculty Competencies also referred to as the Teaching Excellence Framework, explains each faculty competency and its associated description, indicator(s), and Central Piedmont value(s). Faculty are encouraged to refer to the Faculty Competencies to guide their classroom instruction, complete their annual self-assessment for their Individual Development Plan (IDP), and in professional development planning and engagement.
Faculty are an integral part of the entire student experience. There are many actions, inside and outside the classroom, faculty can take to support a students' successful pathway entry to the completion of their educational goals.

Do you need funding to participate in external professional development opportunities? Each academic year, the Educational Resources Committee from College Senate facilitates an application for funding for educational activities. If your department is unable to fund a professional development activity that you are interested in, we encourage you to apply for these funds. Please also pass this information on to your department and to your supervisor.
All full-time faculty and professional staff are eligible (you do not have to be a college senator).
Funding is only considered for registration fees for either virtual or in-person educational activities. This can include, but is not limited to, registration for conferences, webinars, workshops, training sessions, conventions, seminars, summits, and symposiums.
The committee will not fund activities for certifications, courses for licenses, licensing exams, exam preparation, and courses for earning degrees.
First time applicants will be given priority.

The academic affairs resource handbook states in the Office Hours section, “There is an expectation for each full-time instructor to hold and post 8-10 hours of office hours per week except in exceptional circumstances as approved by the dean.
Full-time faculty make a professional commitment to the College, students, and community. Faculty are expected to be on campus a minimum of 30 hours each week to meet their professional obligations in direct service to the College and its students. When the instructor cannot meet the scheduled hours, the instructor should notify the associate dean/supervisor or secretary as soon as possible and post appropriate notice.

According to the full-time instructor job description, one of the responsibilities of a full-time faculty member is to participate in activities that enhance the college’s service to students and to the community. Participation in graduation ceremonies is one-way faculty meet this responsibility. Because the college conducts only one graduation ceremony each year, all faculty are expected to march in cap and gown in the ceremony unless they are assisting with graduation in another capacity as a member of the graduation committee or as a volunteer. If a faculty member is unable to participate in the graduation ceremony, the faculty member is expected to inform the associate dean. Exceptions to active participation in the graduation ceremony will be handled on an individual basis at the division level.
