Rubrics are commonly thought of as a means to simply assess students' work; however, rubrics can serve a greater purpose and provide transparency of what is expected of them and provide clarity of how their work is being graded. Rubrics can serve as an important communication between instructor and student, and links the connection between the assignments and the learning objectives. In Brightspace, there are two types of rubrics: holistics and analytical rubrics. Visit the learning resources below to learn more about each rubric.
You can use rubrics for a variety of purposes. Instances in which rubrics can be useful are to:
Increase transparency and consistency in grading
Encourage students to build a connection between assignments and their learning objectives
Student clarity on how they are being assessed regardless of course delivery format
