At Cove, Social Studies and Science are integrated with Literacy into a 3-hour instruction block at the Elementary level. Teachers utilize the content from each Social Studies and Science unit to build the students’ literacy skills in decoding, reading comprehension, and writing. Recent research also indicates that when teachers integrate high-quality science and literacy instruction, literacy outcomes for students improve significantly, and this integration is highly supported by the STEMscopes curriculum. With the integrated instructional block, Science content will be instructed on a looping 3-year cycle to ensure students are exposed to all grade-level standards.
What is STEMscopes?
Built on the 5E lesson model, STEMscopes Science combines research-based teaching strategies with the invaluable insight of real-life educators to provide a carefully curated, rigorous curriculum that both challenges and sparks the curiosity of students across the country.
Students learn best through hands-on experiences with experiments, exploration of ideas, interpretation of what they observed, and their ability to relate scientific concepts to the real world. STEMscopes Science creates a student-centric, STEM learning environment where students actually get to do science.
