1/15/24 - Dinosaurs
For our dinosaur unit, the kids had fun painting and assembling different creatures. We looked at dinosaur illustrations created by Simon Stalenhag. Stalenhag produces his art for natural history museums in an effort to inspire and teach others about prehistoric life. We talked about dinosaurs, and we also learned about how different museums have different purposes. We compared and contrasted art museums and dinosaur museums.

11/18/23 - Watercolor leaves using diffusion paper
Diffusion paper is a thin paper that allows watercolors to easily spread. Students painted watercolor washes on this paper and as a result, their leaves have a sort of tie-dye effect.

8/31/23 - Balloon Art - Students used balloons as alternative painting tools. Balloons give a unique texture to paint, due to their air inside. They allow kids to make unique marks, which are different than marks made with a traditional paintbrush (some kids painted with their fingers too). In keeping with the balloon theme, we learned about artist Jeff Koons, who created larger-than-life balloon animal sculptures.
