5th Grade

2/14/24 - Valentines

4th, 5th, 6th and 8th grade students created valentines for The Ridge retirement home this year. Fifth grade students have been learning art techniques using watercolor, so they used these skills to make cards with pretty hearts. They did some good!

1/31/24 - Watercolor Techniques Charts

Students have been busy learning watercolor texture techniques. These techniques include: scraping, splattering, crayon resist, bleach, rubbing alcohol, salt, taping, wet-on-wet and wet-on-dry techniques. They are currently developing paintings to represent 'storms', each using 5 different techniques in their artwork.

1/15/24 - Abstract Self Portraits

These self portraits are based on the artwork of contemporary artist and illustrator Sandra Silberzweig. Silberzweig found inspiration from Pablo Picasso. Silberzweig wrote poetry to accompany her portraits, so the students also wrote an acrostic poem as part of our class.

11/2/23 - Day of the Dead Calaveras

Students designed these calavera skulls for Day of the Dead. These skulls hung in our Day of the Dead display in our hallway. They were displayed alongside ofrendas (from 7th grade Spanish class). papel picado flags, candles, calavera masks, and tissue paper marigolds.
