2/10/24 - Bubble Blizzards
For this project, we learned about textures and printing with found objects. We printed snowy backgrounds by applying paint to bubble wrap and stamping it. The kids created their own snowy scenes by adding construction paper shapes in front.

2/10/24 - Vegetable Paintings
The kids experimented with vegetable stamping. The kids made most of their shapes by stamping with sliced carrots, potatoes, onions, and green peppers. Kids can benefit from exploring traditional and non-traditional artmaking techniques as a creative exercise. This project expanded their perspective on what art can be made with.

12/1/23 - Monster Collaborative Project
1st Graders and 7th Graders teamed up to create monsters together. Originally, 1st grade students designed their very own monsters. They thought about details like what the monster's name was, where the monster lived, and what the monster liked to eat. 1st grade students drew an original sketch of their monsters. Then, 7th grade students jumped in and sculpted the 1st grade sketches.
For context, seventh grade students learned about animators and about how some are paid to sculpt maquettes of characters. They first looked at a professional animator's maquette portfolio; this animator worked his career for Disney and Pixar, creating sculpture maquettes of famous characters we all know.
This monster project was an animation simulation. Seventh grade students were told that the 1st grade students were the character designers, and that they were the 3D animators reporting to them. It was the 7th grader's job to serve the 1st grader and meet their needs. First graders were the bosses.
