- OBJECTIVE: Students will rebuild the school's main sign.
- Students were informed that likely on the afternoon of 4/19, at 4 PM, we will be touring the new Boys and Girls Construction site.
- Journals were discussed. Students should treat their journals as a means of communicating all details and specifics to Mr. K. If he can find the details, you will as well (as well as peers) down the road. Scores from here on will be a combination of not only observed participation, but your willingness and ability to document what is taking place.
- Digging was continued today for the sign foundation.
- Students worked on their action items for the school's new sign.
- OBJECTIVE: Complete the hole for the sign foundation.
- Students spent the entire day preparing the hole in the ground for the foundation. Students were to bring rain gear, boots, a shovel, and a wheelbarrow if they have access to one. Hopefully Mr. Ellingson will assist us with this tractor. Students should come prepared, and be on time for this.

- Mr. K's Project Notes will be a place where he documents useful information that might be helpful to the project.
- OBJECTIVE: Students will rebuild the school's main sign.
- Starting today, all students are to keep a detailed journal of anything they do for the CV sign project. This journal should contain links, notes, summaries of decisions made, and notes from phone conversations. Entries should document what the student accomplishes during the class period, and what is to be completed before the next class period (outside of class). The journal should be kept in such a manner that someone else would understand all of its contents without needing to be familiar with the project or needing to ask questions of you. This journal will be periodically checked and grades will be assigned.
- Led by their leader, each small team created a timeline for all of the items on the CV Sign Timeline document, adding items as necessary. Students were assigned tasks and started work on these items. Student leaders then met together to coordinate all tasks and make sure there were no conflicts. This Timeline document was shared with team leaders who can edit it. Only leaders should be editing this document.
- At this point, metal for the sign, electrical materials, and sample decking have been purchased. Anything needing to be purchased should be brought to Mr. K so he can be sure to obtain these things. You will need to ask Mr. K as to whether things have been obtained.
- This is the District Approval document with their notes.
- If there is absolutely nothing to be done on the sign, students worked on their first CNC part. They should check with Mr. K first however.
- Team items have been placed on the CV Sign Timeline (DUE Today)

- FIELD TRIP TO JACOBS ENGINEERING
- Students are to report to Jacob's Engineering on HP's campus by 7:50 AM. Students should wear business casual attire. - OBJECTIVE: Students will learn how to use the school's CNC plasma cutter.
- OBJECTIVE: Students will submit requisitions for materials needed for things to prototype / test for the sign (i.e. concrete, coloring, LED's, some steel for frame, stainless steel for department logos and letters, etc...).

Students should have their resumes and know their availability for future meetings with their mentors. The three students with other tasks are to report in to Mr. Nicol on 3/15 during 2nd Period.
- Students first met in their main sign subgroups to determine goals and tasks for the day. Requisitions are a high priority.
- Next, before starting to work, each student, on a piece of paper, was to write out:
- What he/she were going to do in class today.
- What specific, tangible, concrete item he/she was going to complete by the end of class (to turn in).
- What specific item he/she will turn in at the beginning of class on Tuesday, 3/20. This could be researching how to weld, pouring concrete, concrete characteristics, etc.... This, along with the students piece of paper with these items and with the teachers initials, are to be turned in at the beginning of class on 3/20.
- Items from the previous day were continued.
- Action Item for 3/20 (DUE 3/20, at the beginning of class)
- OBJECTIVE: Students will learn how to use the school's CNC plasma cutter.
- OBJECTIVE: Students will submit requisitions for materials needed for things to prototype / test for the sign (i.e. concrete, coloring, LED's, some steel for frame, stainless steel for department logos and letters, etc...).

- Field trip forms were collected.
- A final Code of Conduct form for the field trip next Thursday was passed out. Students could sign this one and should have given it right back to Mr. K.
- One student was assigned as a facilitator to have students sign up for the various sub teams identified here: CV Main Sign Sub Team Assignments.
- Although we don't have formal approval yet from the district, our principal has given us the go-ahead to start ordering materials to make prototypes, to learn welding, to start fabrication of the sign, etc.... After checking with Mr. K, use the Requisition Template linked on the resources page to order things. Be sure to follow the instructions on the "Instructions" tab. Every little detail matters here. When it isn't done correctly, it gets sent back and nothing gets ordered.
- If finished with requisitioning initial items for the CV sign, students were allowed to finish their first plasma CNC part. Students are asked to go through the instructions again because some settings have been changed. All of the computers in F11, and three machines in F12 have been updated with the latest version of SheetCam with all of the correct settings. NOTE: the Windows version of Sheetcam is limited to only 180 lines of code. To get around this, the post file can be created from the saved job file on the computer at the plasma cutter.
- OBJECTIVE: Students will prepare a detailed final design for the main school sign.
- A second field trip form was passed out. Students are to bring their resume with them to the 3/15 meeting at Jacobs Engineering. Additionally, students are to know their availability in order to coordinate future meetings with their assigned mentor. Students worked to complete punchlist items for the school's sign design.

- OBJECTIVE: Students will prepare a detailed final design for the main school sign.
- Students read Mr. K's feedback on their final sign design and worked to complete the tasks that he noted here: 3-1-18 Sign Tasks. These must be completed and turned in by Monday at 3:05PM so that he has time to review completed materials prior to class on 3/6.
- Complete Individual Sign Design Tasks listed on the 3-1-18 Sign Tasks Document (DUE 3/6, but tasks that should be done before Tuesday are due at the beginning of class -- everyone should be assigned something)
- OBJECTIVE: Students will prepare a detailed final design for the main school sign.
- Most students will be making a field trip to Jacobs Engineering on the morning of Thursday, March 15th. Students are to arrange for their own transportation, and are to be on-site by 7:50 AM. This Field Trip Form must be filled out and returned to Mr. K by Tuesday, March 6th. An additional form must be filled out if students will be driving and/or riding with other CV students.
- Students worked on their main sign tasks. All materials should be placed within this Final School Sign Design Folder by the end of today. Mr. K will review all the materials and will place his comments on the existing task list. All students will be given something to do based upon this review for Thursday. Mr. K will be gone on Thursday -- students will need to look at these tasks to know what they are to work on for Thursday.

- Grade sheets for the CV Sign Proposal Assignment were handed out. Students will be presenting their ideas to school administrators and some staff on Thursday. Groups with missing information should supplement their materials accordingly.
- Students who have not finished their teacher signs were asked to finish them ASAP.
- Students who have not submitted their electronic teacher sign files were asked to do so.
- Students were asked to come up with a design that fits within a 4" x 4" square. This design will be cut from carbon steel plate using the school's ArcLight CNC Plasma Table. Mr. K suggested a Valentine's themed design, but the ultimate choice is up to you. Designs should be sketched using either Solidworks or Illustrator. There are two documents you must follow to complete this assignment, and both are posted on the CV Safety Page for the CNC Plasma Table. First, read and document entitled Preparing G-Code Using Sheetcam for instructions when preparing the G-Code to run the table. Next, after you have produced the G-Code, use the document entitled Using the ArcLight CNC Plasma Table when out at the machine cutting your part. Mr. K will likely be out there with you. Once the part is cut, a wire wheel can be used to clean up the part and remove slag. The steel you will be using is 12 Ga (.1046" thick).
