PROFICIENT VISUAL ART / HONORS ART III
Prerequisite: ART I/ART II, Open to grades 10-12
The Honors Art III course curriculum focuses on 2D Design work. This course is designed for highly motivated art students with previous art experience and will also provide portfolio development to prepare and vertically align with the Advanced Placement 2D Design course. Additionally, this course will introduce advanced artistic skills and develop a foundational understanding of art and design materials, processes, and ideas to prepare them for success.
Essential Standards and Clarifying objectives addressed:
P.V.1 (.1 – .4) Use the language of visual arts to communicate effectively.
P.V.2 (.1 – .3) Apply creative and critical thinking skills to artistic expression.
P.V.3 (.1 – .3) Create art using a variety of tools, media, and processes, safely and appropriately.
P.CX.1 (.1 – .5) Understand the global, historical, societal, and cultural contexts of the visual arts.
P.CX.2 (.1 – .4) Understand the interdisciplinary connections and life applications of the visual arts.
P.CR.1 (.1 – .2) Use critical analysis to generate responses to a variety of prompts.
PROGRAM POLICY: It is important to understand that continuing in the visual arts program takes commitment, responsibility and drive, in addition to creativity. Therefore, students who receive a final first semester/final average of C/70 or lower will be recommended to re-take the course before having an opportunity to advance in the program the following year.
