INTERMEDIATE VISUAL ART / ART II
Prerequisite: ART I, Open to all grades 10-12
Intermediate Visual Art is a fundamentals course that builds upon knowledge acquired in Art I, preparing students for the honors level courses. The focus is enforcing elements of art, principles of design, media, color theory, art concepts/techniques, and history of art. It provides experiences in several different mediums, art criticism and art appreciation.

Essential Standards and Clarifying objectives addressed:
I.V.1 (.1 – .4) Use the language of visual arts to communicate effectively.
I.V.2 (.1 – .3) Apply creative and critical thinking skills to artistic expression.
I.V.3 (.1 – .3) Create art using a variety of tools, media, and processes, safely and appropriately.
I.CX.1 (.1 – .5) Understand the global, historical, societal, and cultural contexts of the visual arts.
I.CX.2 (.1 – .4) Understand the interdisciplinary connections and life applications of the visual arts.
I.CR.1 (.1 – .2) Use critical analysis to generate responses to a variety of prompts.
PROGRAM POLICY: It is important to understand that continuing in the visual arts program takes commitment, responsibility and drive, in addition to creativity. Therefore, students who receive a final first semester/final average of C/70 or lower will be recommended to re-take the course before having an opportunity to advance in the program the following year.
