ADVANCED VISUAL ART / HONORS ART IV
Prerequisite: ART II or HONORS ART III, Open to grades 11-12
This course curriculum focuses mainly on the fine arts of drawing and painting; it is designed for highly motivated art students with previous art experience. The course will involve a more advanced study of art processes, media, history, written expression, and constructive criticism. This course is designed to provide portfolio development to vertically align with the AP Drawing course.
Essential Standards and Clarifying objectives addressed:
A.V.1 (.1 – .4) Use the language of visual arts to communicate effectively.
A.V.2 (.1 – .3) Apply creative and critical thinking skills to artistic expression.
A.V.3 (.1 – .3) Create art using a variety of tools, media, and processes, safely and appropriately.
A.CX.1 (.1 – .5) Understand the global, historical, societal, and cultural contexts of the visual arts.
A.CX.2 (.1 – .4) Understand the interdisciplinary connections and life applications of the visual arts.
A.CR.1 (.1 – .2) Use critical analysis to generate responses to a variety of prompts.
PROGRAM POLICY: It is important to understand that continuing in the visual arts program takes commitment, responsibility and drive, in addition to creativity. Therefore, students who receive a final first semester/final average of C/70 or lower will be recommended to re-take the course before having an opportunity to advance in the program the following year.
