Place Based Learning

Begin where your feet are

Get to know about where you are and then move outwards from there.

It is essential to know our history so that we can know who we are, why we are here, make connections with those who went before, who are here now and who are to come. But how do we find out? In this video Wally Penetito explains why place-based learning is important. He suggests there are 3 key parts to Place-based learning;

  • examine knowledge and events from where your feet stand
  • take into account the tikanga of where you are teaching
  • challenge your 'taken-for-granted' world
