This map was created as a team challenge during one of our hui. It covers about a square kilometre. If working with children, it is advisable to have a responsible adult with each group as there are busy roads to cross. To cover all the points and do the challenge activities, you will need at least two hours. You can shorten it by giving each group only 3 points to visit and then sharing their learning when they come back. You will need approximately half an hour preparation time before setting out on the treasure hunt.
This activity was created for a workshop at Ulearn in 2017. It is based in Claudelands Park. Each point represents a different aspect of Kirikiriroa and its history. The workshop participants managed to complete it in just over an hour but that didn't include any preparation time.
It is advisable to have a time slot of at least 2 hours.
This is my pepeha map... It is somewhat a work in progress but it is starting to show how a map can tell a story. So far it only has a few places but it could grow and be a way of documenting my travels, explorations, key life moments and special places.
