This map was created as a team challenge during one of our hui. It covers about a square kilometre. If working with children, it is advisable to have a responsible adult with each group as there are busy roads to cross. To cover all the points and do the challenge activities, you will need at least two hours. You can shorten it by giving each group only 3 points to visit and then sharing their learning when they come back.
Discussion re: social media - responsibilities etc
An alternative to using Social Media for sharing is to create a Padlet such as this one that participants can post to.
Provide time for orientation. Look at the map, work out where you are, what direction you need to go in, select a route.
Organise groups and times to set off - you might like to set students off at intervals to avoid them all being at the same place at the same time, or that they all have a different starting point.
Agree a time to meet back up
Ensure that there is a means of communicating in case of any incidents.
Ensure any devices being used are charged up
Get the groups to assign roles - someone to take photos, upload to whichever platform you are using to share, a navigator, a time keeper, a safety officer..... these can also be rotated.
