For a couple summers I was able to help coach along side my high school coaches to develop the younger generation of hockey players. I was in charge of coming up with practice plans and help running practices of 10-40 girls from the ages of 7-18 years old. It was fun to be able to give back to the sport that gave me so much and to develop the minds and skills of the young girls.
Fall of 2022 I accepted an High School Girls Hockey Assistant Coach position for North Wright Country Riverhawks. Our roster was 35 girls from ages 14-18 years old.
I worked under a registered dietitian fulfilling meal contracts for various cites.
Summer 2021: My 8-hour days consisted of completing preparation sheets for cooks and meal ingredient preparation workers . I would help out with preparing, weighing, counting, and portioning meal ingredients to send out to 25+ daycare cites around the area. One other role I had was to help serve 200+ meals for Meals On Wheels for both Cass and Clay County everyday and stepping in to run the operations when needed.
Fall 2021-Spring 2022: After classes started my role changed a little bit to be primarily in the office setting. I would complete the meal preparation spread sheets and educational handouts for surrounding daycare cites. Programs like Excel, CBORD, and Canva I utilized everyday to complete my tasks.
I had the opportunity to volunteer under a registered sports dietitian at an NCAA division I college. I spent my time learning the roles of a sports RD at a college. My responsibilities were to make sure the athletes had adequate snacks and protein shakes available at all times by preparing the snacks and shakes myself. I needed to have options for those with allergies and other special requests.
I had the opportunity to travel to Colorado and shadow Ellie Betts, RD for a day. I got to see her role and her other colleagues who are also registered dietitians within the WIC program. I also experienced what it was like to be one of the counselors who coach these women on how to use the WIC program and how they can make changes to their diets to be healthier. One added bonus was that I got to shadow a lactation consultant and sit in on an appointment. I loved being able to learn about this great government program and seeing the difference it can make in people's lives.
For one summer I was a part of the networking group for females in the food industry. We would get together every couple weeks to listen to other females talk about their role in the food industry and how to empower each other to become the best and most successful versions of ourselves. It was always helpful make professional connections with people all over the country.
I worked in every area of the hotel in high school up until my sophomore year of college. The same summers that I was back in my hometown, I also was at the hotel working at the front desk. My duties were to make sure all the housekeeping was done and up to standards for guest in everyway, and to sell, book, and manage rooms.
