A group of nine Indigenous Peoples representatives will join the Action Day and the Stockholm Food Forum as part of a new and evolving collaboration facilitated by Hindou Oumarou Ibrahim (founder of the Association for Indigenous Women and Peoples of Chad and member of the EAT Advisory Board) in partnership with EAT. Current members of this group include June Rubis (Bidayuh, Malaysian Borneo), Zuhira Musa (Mbororo Fulani, Cameroon), Kelly Ulcuango (Pukará de Pesillo, Pueblo Kichwa Kayambi, Ecuador), Ken Paul (Member, Wolastoqey Nation at Neqotkuk, Canada), Gunn-Britt Retter (Saami, Norway), Selina Nkoile (Maasai, Kenya), Rodion Sulyandziga (Udege, Russia), Myria Moana Rongo (Kōrero o te 'Ōrau, Cook Islands), and Didja Tchari Djibrillah (Peuls Mbororo, Chad).
In preparation for the Forum, the group engaged in two online dialogues and follow-up exchanges to co-develop a set of shared key messages to collectively champion and amplify during the event. These key messages focus on:
The challenges Indigenous Peoples face in advancing healthy, just, and sustainable food systems.
Opportunities for collective action to advance the food systems transformation
Calls to other communities to enable stronger collaboration and action.
Looking forward, this nascent group intends to continue its work beyond the Forum, expanding to include additional Indigenous representatives from diverse regions and backgrounds, further advancing healthy, sustainable, and just food systems, and strengthening connections with other Communities for Action. EAT is committed to supporting and continuing this collaboration as the group evolves in the coming months.
