FarmAhead™ Technology: A data-driven toolbox for Facilitating Sustainability Transitions on Farms
FarmAhead™ Technology: A data-driven toolbox for Facilitating Sustainability Transitions on Farms
Through strong collaboration across our value chain and with our farmers, we have set clear ambitions: to reduce on-farm emissions by 30% by 2030 and to reach carbon net zero by 2050.
Our journey began with building a database that is updated annually with each farm’s individual CO₂e footprint. Building on this foundation, we created FarmAhead™ Technology: a system of tools and methods designed to ensure continuous progress. It is built around five key elements:
A firm commitment to Science Based Targets
Measuring progress through our FarmAhead™ Check data
Incentivising reductions via our FarmAhead™ Incentive Model
Turning measurement and incentives into real emission reductions
Attracting new investment through the FarmAhead™ Customer Partnership program, enabling us to scale impact together with our customers.
So far, this approach has already delivered a 13% reduction in our scope 3 emissions.

A key success factor is to innovate a system of tools and methodologies that fit all different farm types.
Important to have an entrepreneurial approach, which helps farmers choose the right things to implement at their farm.
Crucial to incentivise action and to work across the value chain to bring investment into the cooperative to help fund the transition.
Continue training, educating and motivating our farmers in especially the FarmAhead™ Incentive Model
Continue developing and refining FarmAhead™ Technology, including expanding the FarmAhead™ Incentive Model with additional metrics
Providing access to relevant tools of FarmAhead™ Technology to companies and farmers outside Arla to help the transition across the whole industry.
